No More Braces

Camden Without Braces

This goodlookin’ kid had his braces removed today. He looks so much older without them. Camden is growing up so fast!

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for supporting Our Frugal Family for the last year and a half. I’ve enjoyed your emails and interacting with you on our Facebook page. I’m very sorry for my absence this last month. Being a great mom, wife, and teacher has dominated much of my time. And honestly, after coming home from work in early September and finding my sweet cat Joey dead, I haven’t had much of an interest in deal hunting or blogging.

I apologize if you’ve come to depend on the price match lists; however, it was becoming too overwhelming to keep up with while working full-time. I hope, at some point, to return to posting the price match lists and grocery store matchups. Until then, feel free to use the Grocery Stores – General Info link to look up the weekly ads for those stores you plan to shop/price match. Use the Coupon Database to find coupons that match with the sales. Then, if you’d like, print your coupons here:, RedPlum, Continue reading @

Camden’s dream finally came true! We learned over a year ago that there would be a Legoland Discovery Center built at Grapevine Mills Mall. We purchased annual passes early (in January!) for their March pre-grand opening. The wait to get in was a little long. However, Camden had a great time and is ready to go back for more!

Happy 9th Birthday, Camden!

Happy Halloween ’09

Camden was very excited to be an Army Sergeant this year for Halloween. We found a great costume and all the accessories at an army supply store. They even embroidered his name, US Army, and added patches for a small fee. I had fun painting his face for him – he was such a great kid sitting through it for about 30 minutes. I think he looked awesome!

Camden is now digging through the 5 pounds of candy he collected last night. Just keep it away from me, kiddo!!

3 Generations of Leake Men

A great picture of 3 generations of the “Leake Men” taken during John and Camden’s trip to Colorado Springs in August, 2009.

Happy 8th Birthday to Camden!

Camden had a fantastic bowling party this year with 6 of his closest friends.

Camden’s 2nd Grade Year

Camden had a very successful 2nd grade year. Wow, what an incredible difference from last year. He finished with an “A” average and is now reading above grade level. Last year we were told at his previous elementary school that we would need to retain him in 1st grade and they gave us a list of his problems. They (the teachers & administrators) felt he could not be successful in the 2nd grade. John and I (especially John) disagreed. We decided to move him to our neighborhood school, McNair Elementary. When we initially enrolled Camden in the other school district, I thought it was the best there was. Boy was I mistaken. Now I know that all that glitters isn’t gold.

Great job, Camden!

Over Budget!

Well, every single thing that I purchased online has arrived. I have also made a few more purchases as items have gone on sale. The poor mail carrier – I think she is getting very tired of having to come out of her vehicle to deliver packages to our door. Yesterday when she was driving up to our mailbox, Camden ran out to meet her to see if she had any more boxes to give us. She told Camden that maybe on Monday he’ll get more. As the boxes were arriving, they would get piled up on our dining room table – it was beginning to look like a warehouse! Throughout the last couple of weeks, as I’d get home from work, I’d hide the packages throughout the house. I hope I can remember where I put everything! UUGGHH – now I have to wrap everything and I hate wrapping presents!

We have spent WAY too much money on Christmas gifts this year! Camden is getting a ridiculous amount of gifts from Santa and Mom/Dad. John

Camden’s Christmas Gifts

So we’ve received Camden’s Christmas wish list for this year and as usual, it contains so many toys that I know he’ll lose interest in after a short while. He did ask for a few Star Wars Lego sets, which I feel are excellent toy choices. But he also wants the Eyeclops Night Vision Goggles, a few video games, and some MORE action figures (as if he doesn’t have enough already). I predict that those goggles will end up at the bottom of his toy chest no less than a month after Christmas.

I’m thinking of getting him one of the Snap Circuit Sets (the Extreme version). He received the JR set last Christmas and still plays with it. We actually fought over it about a month ago. I was planning on taking it to school to do a demonstration with it for my class and Camden became very upset that I was taking it. He asked about it the entire time it was gone (which was about 3 days). I like the extreme version since it provides the
