Our Pets

The Leake family is a cat family.  We love our cats – they’re definitely our fur babies.  They’re in charge and sometimes it seems our lives revolve around them.  With two moody cats in our household, there’s a lot of cat drama going on.  From who has the best spot on the cat tree, to how many cats can fit around mom while she sleeps, the excitement (and spats) seem never-ending.  We wouldn’t change a thing, though.  We love them!

We adopted Moboo in September of 1992 from a family giving away kittens.  I had his name picked out long before we got him.  Moboo was named after 2 of my childhood cats: Morris and Bootsie.  Moboo was the love of our lives and an important part of our family.  Our beautiful and precious Moboo died peacefully in my arms on March 27, 2008, at approximately 5:00 p.m. after a year-long battle with oral cancer.  He died in our home surrounded by his very loving family who will miss him dearly.

Moboo, there will never be another cat like you.  We were so blessed to have you in our lives.

“Moboo – the good little kitty…”

I found Rusty in a parking lot on 11/12/03.  He was sleeping in the small grassy island in the middle of the lot.  It took a lot of effort to catch him (he’s shy!) but I eventually corralled him and brought him home.   Rusty is by far the sweetest and most mellow cat we have ever lived with.  He is also one of the laziest!  He LOVES to lie in our bed and sleep, sleep, sleep.  Rusty is the most loyal sleeping buddy – he will sleep with you all night long, even after getting kicked, squished, and shoved around.  He likes to play fight with Tiger — you’ll sometimes see Rusty tease Tiger.

This is our moody, yet very cuddly cat named “Tiger” by Camden.  We adopted him from the local city animal shelter and he officially came to live with us on June 9, 2008.  The vet listed his date of birth as 4/29/2008.  He is a wacky cat that can eat non-stop.  His favorite things are annoying Rusty, tearing up things left on the floor, carrying stuffed animals around the house, “talking” back to us (like I said, moody), and eating whipped cream from a can.  He’s a nutty cat but we sure do love him!

I’m heartbroken to share that our sweet Joey died on September 9, 2013 very unexpectedly.  After a necropsy by the ER vet, it was determined Joey had heartworm disease which caused his sudden death.  Please read more about heartworm disease in cats by clicking here and please put your cat on a monthly preventative medication specifically designed to prevent heartworm disease, such as Revolution.  We miss him terribly; our hearts ache for this sweet, young baby who died far too soon (less than 2 years old).

Original Post:  Joey showed up on our back porch in July of 2012.  He was a scrawny, dirty, and very hungry kitten, but, he was so sweet and friendly.  I couldn’t help but give him some food as I could see he really needed it.  Camden would sit with him on the porch over the next few days, petting and feeding him with the hopes that he’d find his way back home.  He named him Joey and after a week of living on our porch, we officially had him join the Leake family.  The vet fixed him up for us (neuter, shots, flea bath) and listed his age when we adopted him at 8-9 months.  He has a very sweet, friendly, and playful personality.
